Apple’s iOS 27 beta lets users customize Siri’s speaking pace

Apple is taking another major step in its artificial intelligence strategy with the latest iOS 27 beta, introducing a more personalized version of Siri that gives users greater control over how the virtual assistant sounds and interacts. The update reflects Apple's broader effort to transform Siri from a traditional voice assistant into a more conversational AI companion capable of competing with leading generative AI platforms.

One of the biggest additions in iOS 27 Beta 3 is the activation of Siri's long-awaited Pace and Expressivity controls. Previously listed as "coming soon" in earlier developer builds, the new settings now allow beta testers to customize how fast Siri speaks and how much emotion or personality its voice expresses during conversations.

The enhancements build on features first unveiled during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where the company outlined its vision for a more natural and human-like Siri experience. Instead of simply choosing between different voices, users can now adjust speech speed, vocal warmth, enthusiasm, and conversational tone to better match their personal preferences.

Apple has also expanded the variety of available Siri voices, offering multiple accents and speaking styles designed to create a more personalized interaction. The company believes these improvements will make everyday conversations with Siri feel less robotic and more engaging.

The AI-powered Siri is now deeply integrated throughout iOS 27, allowing users to interact through voice commands, typed conversations, the Dynamic Island interface, the side button, or the newly introduced standalone Siri application. This multi-input approach is intended to make the assistant more flexible across different situations.

Apple is also developing more advanced conversational abilities for Siri. According to previous reports, future updates will allow users to issue multiple commands within a single request, enabling the assistant to complete several tasks without requiring repeated prompts. For example, users will be able to ask Siri to start a timer, check the weather, send a message, and perform other actions within one continuous conversation.

The Siri overhaul represents Apple's response to intense competition from AI leaders such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, all of which have rapidly expanded the capabilities of their conversational AI systems. Unlike earlier versions of Siri that relied primarily on predefined responses, the new AI-powered assistant aims to provide more context-aware, fluid, and intelligent interactions.

Alongside Siri improvements, iOS 27 also introduces several smaller refinements, including refreshed app icons and interface updates across native applications.
